Why Can't Cats Taste Sweet?

All felines have a genetic mutation in the Tas1r2 gene that prevents the formation of sweet taste receptors. This 247-base pair deletion makes the gene non-functional.

Studies confirm all members of the cat family (Felidae) share this trait!
