Don't manage Stress, get rid of STRESS

My name is Dr. Anozie (“Ah-Noh-Zay”) and I live in Maryland. I am MIT- and Michigan-trained in nuclear engineering. I do not have a degree in stress management but instead have practical experience in getting rid of stressful situations. In my years as a manager in nuclear engineering, I have mentored many colleagues, engineers, friends, and others, recognizing the impact stress had on their work and in their personal lives. This has inspired me to become a stress coach. I can use my experience to help you get rid of stress instead of managing stress. The coaching I provide is not medical or psychiatric treatment. Stress is defined as a state of mental or emotional strain caused by adverse circumstances. At one point or another, most people deal with feelings of stress. In fact, one study found that 33% of adults reported experiencing elevated levels of perceived stress. Stress is a psychological and physiological response to situations the body and mind find to be overwhelming. We should ask ourselves how to get rid of stress instead of just managing our stress. THE IMPACT OF STRESS ON YOUR BODY Your body will release cortisol when it feels stressed. Cortisol is a hormone that increases sugar in your bloodstream, increases glucose in your brain, and slows down your immune and digestive systems. This is part of your natural fight-or-flight response to danger. However, your response to stress can also have lasting unintended effects. Cortisol also affects your mental well-being. The effects of stress on your mental health manifest in changes in mood, feelings of anxiousness, sadness, restlessness, overwhelmed, irritability, loss of motivation, and an inability to calm your mind. You tend to attribute stress to things that happen to you. You can get rid of stress from family situation and situation at the workplace. The good news, from my experience, is that in many cases, you do not need to manage stress but get rid of stress. It is all in your mind. Ask yourself why you are stressed out. Yesterday you were fine and today you are not. Why? There are articles out there including online about 5, 6, 8, 10 ways of managing stress and they provide you examples of what to do: Practice deep breathing Maintain physical exercise and good nutrition Sleep Enough Play with your kids or pets – outdoors, if possible Read a book, short story, or magazine Have a drink Manage social media time Connect with others Listen to music Talk it out with a friend Connect with Supportive People Talk yourself through it Eat Well and Limit Alcohol and Stimulants Develop a Positive Self-Talk Habit Laugh it off Drink tea Practice Mindfulness Re-balance Work and Home Carve out Hobby Time Practice Meditation, Stress Reduction or Yoga Hang out with your friends and loved ones Take a Vacation See a Counselor, Coach or Therapist Try herbal supplements for stress relief Practice Progressive Muscle Relaxation Create Artwork Express Gratitude Cut out Things That Add to Your Stress Count to ten before you speak or react Make time for Leisure Activities If it is not urgent, sleep on it and respond tomorrow Walk away from situation and come back once things have calmed down Break down big problems into smaller parts. Take one step at a time. Also, people suggest talking to your doctor about ways to manage stress if you are experiencing any of these symptoms: Prolonged periods of poor sleep Regular, severe headaches Unexplained weight loss or gain Feelings of isolation, withdrawal, or worthlessness Constant anger and irritability Loss of interest in activities Constant worrying or obsessive thinking Excessive alcohol or drug use Inability to concentrate Here are commonly asked questions about stress: What are ways to relieve stress? What are warning signs of stress? What are causes of stress? Why do people get stressed so easily? Will stress make you sick? How do people know if they are too stressed? Will crying relieve stress? These examples are good ways to manage your stress and good questions, but you are only managing the stress instead of getting rid of the stress. My point is that while these examples of stress management is encouraged, you should look for ways to get rid of the stress all together. This is what I promise to show you. Exhaustion or tiredness is not stress. Not able to sleep because of nagging thoughts is stress. Get rid of the stress and you will sleep better. Fixating on something you cannot change will lead to a stressful situation. Get rid of the something you are worrying about, and you will be free of stress. The impact of stress on your mind and body is unwelcome and finding ways to get rid of the stress is the good news. Knowing what stress does to your body will motivate you to learn how to get rid of the stress. I encourage you not to worry too much, to relax, and stay calm. Focus on the good news for a moment such as the reality that we have different ways on how to calm our mind and body. This way, you will be able to get rid of stress and decrease the risk of developing harmful medical conditions like high blood pressure, heart problems, and other mental disturbances. We can have a one-on-one conversation about getting rid of your stress, and during this conversation, I will seek the root cause of your stress through an exchange of questions and answers, a solution will emerge for getting rid of your stress. Let us say you are stressing out because of your relationship with your spouse and instead of trying to resolve the situation, your action or that of your spouse is making the situation worse. In such a situation, we would have a conversation to locate the root cause of the situation and it will take only you with my assistance to find a solution and get rid of your stress. With your stress gone, your relationship with your spouse will be much better. It takes only one spouse or partner to make things better in a marriage or relationship. Another example is the situation at your workplace that is stressing you out. Instead of trying to manage the stressful situation, you should get rid of it. Find the root cause to remove the stress. The principle is applicable to any situation that causes stress and the only thing one need to do is to find the root cause and remove the bad situation and thereby getting rid of the stress. Instead of all the ideas I have listed to manage your stress, I suggest getting rid of the stress all together would be clearly the better action to take. Why manage stress instead of getting rid of it? When you get rid of stress, you will notice all your relationships improve including your marriage, your coworkers, bosses, and subordinates as well as those in your personal life. In general, based on my experience, the following actions can help you get rid of stress: Always plan ahead Work to be financially independent even in a relationship Stay Active Always set up contingency plans just in case Believe in yourself and your uniqueness Since lack of money is one of the root causes of stress, make more money Since love is one of the root causes of stress, open your eyes when falling in love Manage your time Multitask your activities Give everyone the benefit of the doubt to believe they are nice and smart Good Attitude is a source of less stress Do not take yourself seriously in all you do Avoid being in gossiping environments Only you can change yourself When people put you down, smile and walk away because the only way you can go now is up Since no one can read your mind, there is no need to worry about what people think of you. Only you know the direction you are going Prepare for the morning the evening before Do not rely on your memory, write down everything Remember your wedding day whenever you think of leaving your marriage, except for an abusive situation Procrastination is stressful, whatever you want to do tomorrow, do today
