So the title of this article is have we reached peak mid-journey so it's all about whether mid-journey the AI image generation tool which used to be the you know it's one of the one of the earliest big AI generative AI tools and the most famous I think of all the AI image generators whether it's now about to be superseded by various other AI image tools so divided up into four parts the first part is the reign of mid-journey from 2022 which I think is when it launched although you might want to check that up until early 2024 so basically for the first section briefly kind of recap mid-journey story so the fact that they were one of the first AI image tools one of the first generative AI tools that people used I think the they actually launched before chat GPT and like I was using mid-journey version 3 back in mid-2022 alongside when Dali 1.0 launched so you can talk about the history and their user base and growth and the founder and things like that and I'll talk about the keywords at the end but this you can probably search mid-journey Wikipedia and all this stuff will come up so just a nice little introduction there that can be rich with history from like 2022 which I think is when it launched up until sort of the end of 2023 and then in part to talk about the rise of mid-journey competitors so really from sort of 2023 to 2024 which is now so you can talk about how OpenAI released Dali 2 and then Dali 3 although they did so almost as an afterthought you know their main product of course is chat GPT and they never really seen that bothered about Dali it was only available via the API Dali 3 anyways only available via the API and also to GPT plus customers but then more serious competitors appeared on the scene including Leonardo AI which has got a lot of very awesome benefits ideagram which is substantially better than mid-journey at both text and also prompt adherence and then also flux and most recently flux 1.1 and so ideagram is by far in a way the best text out of all the AI image generators and flux is both arguably on par with mid-journey for most prompts and it's also open source as well for example you can generate Laura's L-O-R-A with flux and because it's all open source of course it has a massive massive fan base is also very very cheap to run for example you can run it on replicate or on various other sites very very cheaply without having to sign up for any recurring pricing like you do with mid-journey so all of these through 2024 have kind of chipped away at mid-journeys market share and then finally as well we can discuss the acquisition of Leonardo AI by the mega design company Canva and of course Canva is much much bigger it's a massive site beyond just AI has in July according to similar web it had 530 million visitors compared to 12 million visits to mid-journey and of course that's not an Apple to Apple comparison because up until I believe August mid-journey was discord only except for people who had done a certain number of generations but even now it looks like you know mid journey is a minnow compared to Canva and then part 3 is mid-journey struggle for a niche from late 2024 onwards so you can discuss mid-journeys current position and I would argue that they have a lack of a distinct competitive advantage over the competitors and this is kind of hinted at by some of the strategic moves that they've made for example they brought back the free plan which was ditched all the way back in 2023 and they've also opened up the website to everyone which again you used to have to access mid-journey via discord they've now opened the website up to anyone some of disadvantages in my opinion that mid-journey has compared to the competitors they don't have an API they're not open source they don't have a massive external backer like canvas or you know opening eyes funders and they also moved from discord far too late in my opinion and finally they're also much more competitive than most other tools and you know they don't really have much of a distinct advantage in comparison to many many AI image generators that are in the market and so there are rumors of an orb which is like a piece of hardware they're gonna release they are gonna release video at some point and they're gonna also shift to building real kind of virtual worlds and things like that but none of this is quite clear and then finally part 4 is the uncertain future 2025 and beyond so we can kind of speculate a bit here on mid-journey future and throw out some possible ideas will they release an AI video generator will if so they're gonna be releasing it into a crowded space with flux and sorry not flux with runway and luma labs and cling amongst many others will they release the orb and start to shift into virtual worlds does the founder even care given that it's a private company he presumably has control of of the board and of the direction of the company and it's rumored that they are generating well over 300 million dollars per year so it's not clear that they have a massive incentive to change direction in time and it may be possible that they're gonna gradually lose relevance to what I would call a three-pronged attack of open source I flux and most recently flux 1.1 on one side mega companies like Canva and opening I on the second front and then thirdly more nimble smaller players like ideagram who are outperforming them in specific areas and kind of sub niches and so that's kind of the article terms of keywords to search the first one I would definitely search is mid-journey Wikipedia but then you can also search mid-journey revenue mid-journey versus which will I'm sure bring up comparisons of mid-journey versus other ones mid-journey free plan 2024 and Leonardo AI and that's it
